Information

Zion Church of the City of Baltimore was founded in 1755 by German immigrants. The sanctuary was built in 1807 and the Parish Hall, built in 1912, was dedicated as a space where Germans in Baltimore could gather. For nearly 100 years, Zion was an independent congregation, but today it is an ELCA Lutheran congregation that is the only church in Maryland still conducting weekly worship services in German. Zion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

If you’re sure-footed, ask if you can venture upstairs into the choir loft to get an up close look at the stained glass windows that are unlike any others in Baltimore!

Notice about site:

The entrance to the sanctuary located at 146 North Gay Street. The parking lot entrance is just north of the church on Gay Street. Handicapped accessibility is through the Parish Hall off the driveway on the north side of the church.
