Information

Baltimore Underground Science Space is a non-profit public laboratory offering classes, seminars, and lab access so that anyone can safely and affordably investigate the living world. BUGSS is a community of amateurs, professionals, citizen scientists, activists, and artists exploring biotechnology through scientific and artistic investigations. It hopes to serve as a space for open dialogue, and “learning through doing” as Synthetic Biology and new biological technologies become more relevant to our everyday lives.

BUGSS is housed within Haven Street Factory, a brick building located in an industrial area formerly beyond the Baltimore City limits. Completed in 1904 for the Steiner Mantel Company, it was used as a factory for fireplace mantels, wood veneer, and furniture and, later, in Baltimore’s food processing and shipping industry.

If it’s been too long since you’ve peered into a petri dish, come and check out the lab at BUGSS!
