About:
108 W. North Avenue was built as a grand single-family residence in 1878. In the earliest years of Baltimore’s development, large houses and institutions were built on what was the outskirts of town, but as the city quickly grew, development shifted to commercial establishments including anchors such as the Parkway Theater and North Avenue Market. The principal resident of 108 W. North was Samuel Hyde, a corn packer.
After Hyde’s death, it was converted to house an undertaking establishment on the first floor and apartments on the upper levels. Local developer Timshel acquired 108 W. North Ave., now known as the Parlor, in 2022 and began renovations in late 2023. The property will house a bar/restaurant, art studios, and offices.
According to local journalist Jaques Kelly, the Parlor has “the kind of interior that could make a visitor gasp or laugh, or perhaps both.”
