Information

Located in the impeccably restored home of a brick baron, George Warner, Rachael’s Dowry is as elegant today as it was when it hosted George & Martha Washington in the 1790s. The Warner family settled here in the mid-1700s and built the present home sometime before 1790. It was renovated to include Victorian windows, tilework and marble fireplaces around 1850. Rumored to be a safe house on the Underground Railroad, the home was a regular stop for the Washingtons, and was the home of 4-time Representative for Maryland, Frank Wachter, from 1880-1906. In turn the home was renovated into a funeral home in 1920, and was finally restored to its current state as a bed and breakfast beginning in 2005.

Can this building truthfully exclaim, “Washington slept here”? Come and find out!
