About

The Peabody Heights Brewery rises over the grounds of Terrapin Park, the longest lasting baseball park in Baltimore. The park encompassed the area that now contains Barclay Elementary School and a strip of row houses, and its home plate was near a back wall of the now Peabody Heights Brewery. The ballpark was built in 1914 and closed in 1944, after an early-morning fire of indeterminate origin – perhaps a discarded cigarette – razed the wooden stands to the ground. After a decade as a vacant lot, the site was occupied by the Royal Crown Cola bottling plant. In 2012, the Peabody Heights Brewery opened its doors, paying homage in its name to Charles Village’s historic nickname.
