American Visionary Art Museum800 Key Hwy, Baltimore, MD 21230 www.avam.org
The American Visionary Art Museum was founded in 1984 and specializes in intuitive art, created by self-taught individuals often with no formal training. During your visit, enjoy the glittering mosaics that clad the museum’s exterior, the two outdoor sculpture gardens, and don’t miss the giant whirligig: three tons, fifty-five feet tall, this brilliant, multicolored wind-powered sculpture was created in salute to Federal Hill and Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness by then 76 year-old farmer, mechanic and visionary artist, Vollis Simpson. To view the interior galleries of the museum, an admission fee applies (Adults $15.95, Seniors $13.95, Students $9.95, children under 6 are free).
